A press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office:

HUSBAND AND WIFE PLEAD GUILTY TO BANK ROBBERIES IN NORTHERN ILLINOIS

ROCKFORD — A husband and wife from Crystal Lake, Ill., have both pleaded guilty in federal court before U.S. District Judge Frederick J. Kapala to bank robberies in Northern Illinois.

On Feb. 22, 2019, DANIEL R. PLUSHKIS, 27, pleaded guilty to three counts of bank robbery and admitted to two other bank robberies as part of a plea agreement. His wife, JESSICA E. PLUSHKIS, 29, pleaded guilty on Feb. 11, 2019, to two counts of aiding and abetting a bank robbery.

As part of Daniel’s written plea agreement, he admitted to committing a string of five bank robberies in Northern Illinois in December 2017.

On Dec. 1, 2017, Daniel robbed the Chase Bank, 300 Northwest Hwy. in Cary, Ill.

On that date, Daniel entered the bank wearing a long fake beard, a hooded black jacket, a camouflage hat, and sunglasses.

He handed a teller an envelope with a note on it stating that he had a gun, and he then began counting down from 30.

The teller put $5,870 from the bank’s cash drawer into the envelope, and Daniel then fled from the bank with the cash.

As part of Daniel’s written plea agreement, Daniel also admitted that he robbed the TCF Bank, 13200 Village Green Dr. in Huntley, Ill., on Dec. 10, 2017 and the TCF Bank, 1860 S. Arlington Heights Rd., in Arlington Heights, Ill., on Dec. 13, 2017.

In both robberies, Daniel wore a disguise including a long fake beard and sunglasses, he handed the teller an envelope with a note taped to it, and he began a countdown after he handed the envelope to the teller.

Daniel stole $237 during the Dec. 10, 2017 robbery in Huntley’s TCF Bank inside Jewel and $2,676 during the Dec. 13, 2017 robbery in Arlington Heights.

As part of Jessica’s written plea agreement, Jessica admitted that she aided and abetted Daniel in committing the Dec. 13, 2017 bank robbery in Arlington Heights.

Jessica admitted that she purchased a fake beard, black-colored hair spray, and black face paint for Daniel a few hours before the Dec. 13, 2017 robbery, knowing that Daniel intended to use those items as part of his disguise for the robbery.

As part of Daniel’s written plea agreement, Daniel also admitted that he robbed the TCF Bank, 217 E. Irving Park Rd. in Streamwood, Ill. on Dec. 20, 2017. Daniel wore a disguise including a long fake beard, sunglasses, and a hooded black jacket.

Daniel handed the teller an envelope with a noted taped to it and verbally demanded that the teller give him the money that the teller was in the process of counting. The teller handed over the $500 the teller was counting, and Daniel fled from the bank with the cash.

As part of Daniel’s and Jessica’s written plea agreements, they also admitted that Daniel robbed the TCF Bank, 103 S. Randall Rd. in Algonquin, Ill., on Dec. 23, 2017, and that Jessica aided and abetted Daniel in committing that robbery.

Daniel and Jessica admitted that Jessica drove Daniel to the bank and waited in the parking lot to drive Daniel away from the scene, knowing that Daniel intended to rob the bank.

They also admitted that, before Daniel left the vehicle, he put on a disguise include a long fake beard, sunglasses, and a tan and maroon colored glove.

Daniel then entered the grocery store in which the bank is located wearing the disguise, approached the bank counter, and handed the teller an envelope with a note taped to it.

The note stated that he had a gun and told the teller to empty the bottom drawer into the envelope.

The note stated that the teller had 20 seconds to comply.

The teller put $4,350 in cash from the bank drawer into the envelope.

Daniel then fled the premises with the envelope and cash.

Daniel began heading toward the vehicle where Jessica was waiting for him, but Daniel was apprehended by a private citizen in the parking lot before he made it back to the vehicle.

Jessica admitted that, after Daniel was apprehended, she quickly drove out of the parking lot to avoid being apprehended by law enforcement, but was pulled over by a law enforcement officer as she exited the parking lot.

Law enforcement officers recovered the money Daniel stole from the bank at the scene.

Each of the counts to which Daniel and Jessica pleaded guilty carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment, a term of supervised release of up to 3 years following imprisonment, and a fine of up to $250,000.

Each defendant’s actual sentence will be determined by the United States District Court, guided by the Sentencing Guidelines.

Sentencing for Jessica Plushkis is set for May 28, 2019, at 2:30 p.m., and sentencing for Daniel Plushkis is set for June 25, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.

The guilty pleas were announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Jeffrey S. Sallet, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
